Obituaries: Issue Three

This obituary section honors the lives of those in our community, both housed and unhoused. However, please understand the variations in obituaries are often due to the tumultuous nature of homelessness and we do not always have the full information around someone’s life or death. We wish to honor the lives of our community members to the best of our ability, even if we only know their street names or have limited information.

If you have an obituary you would like us to include please contact Kate at hohsharewv@gmail.com or call (304)238-9484.

Doug Wasemann
December 30, 1960 - August 22, 2021
Doug knew the meaning of friendship. He was always willing to lend a hand whether it was helping a neighbor plant flowers, trimming a tree, or helping Street MOMs move furniture. Doug enjoyed quiet time with his sister and Jason at their lake house. Doug had a passion for music and playing the guitar. His brilliant blue eyes spoke to the depth of his soul. He will be sadly missed by so many.

Robert Mitchum
November 18, 1975 - September 2, 2021
Robert was a kind man, quick to offer help with cleaning or to find warm clothes for a friend. Rob had a heart full of gratitude for those who helped him, and love for his family, especially his sons. He could always be spotted well before he arrived, towering over those with whom he walked. His presence was less intimidating and more consoling, as he comforted those in pain, and tried to ease the burdens of those he loved.

Melinda "Danielle" Greathouse
March 11, 1987 - October 16, 2021
Not only was Melinda one of our first contributors to Mustard Seed Mountain. There was no doubt of how much she loved her children, how much she hoped to stay in recovery, and how much she wanted to be a contributor to this paper. Her last text to us stated how happy she was to move near her little boy, and a poem you will find in this issue. Surviving in addition to her mother is her husband, Jarred Mutz, four children, Landyn, Elyza, William and Rylee, a sister, Tiffany Morgan, a brother, Robert Morgan, mother-in-law, Karena Dawson, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Tim Upperman
December 16, 1964 - October 26, 2021
Tim lived at House of Hagar for a time in 2015. While there, he became our night watchman, sitting up into the wee hours playing sudoku and tending to the forgotten house chores. When things changed for Tim, they changed rapidly, and he went from being a person providing safety and stability, to a world filled with the terrors of the night. Regardless, Tim is always a part of our community, and though we are saddened by his passing, we are grateful for the peace and comfort he has found which eluded him for so long.
